Depends . . . Even the cheapest carpet will provide years of service given a high quality of care and the most expensive carpets will not perform without proper care. Proper Care = Frequent Vacuuming and Professional Cleaning at Least Once a Year. There are too many variables involved to accurately predict the life of a particular carpet. The basic performance is determined by the type of fiber used, the way the carpet is constructed (cut pile - loop - etc.), the twist of the yarn, the heat set and the density of the tufts. A firm and resilient pad is necessary to extend the life of the carpet and will also increase its comfort. Just as important as the quality of the carpet and pad is proper maintenance. You should vacuum often and thoroughly with a strong well functioning vacuum cleaner and have the carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year. |
